How do I ship my game to the EU? Do I need a CE Mark, AR, VAT?

If you want your game in the EU you’ll likely need all of the above. It’s a fair amount of work but very doable once you understand it. I got really frustrated when searching for clear answers on how to ship a board game into the EU/UK. I found a lot of misinformation, “experts” that…

How can I maintain productivity using Agile board game development?

Passion for your project will come and go. Rely on a proven process to structure your chaos, and progress becomes inevitable. 3 months out from my Kickstarter, and since I’m planning right, there are a million things to do: playtests, promo art, manufacturer files, campaign pages, shipping quotes, and on and on it goes. Every day…

Join Me On My Journey to Become a Board Game Publisher
Hi! And welcome to my blog. Yup it’s 2025, and I’m writing a blog. Feels like I’m really at the cutting edge of internet communication.

I’ve never been great at social media. Not in the way that you have to be to appear interesting, gain a following, and win the hearts and minds of the internet. So rather than flounder around on sites I’m too old for (I was born in 1992, and so that’s actually only half a joke. Which, ouch…), I decided maybe I could actually provide something useful in the form of a blog that answers the questions I see come up time and time again from aspiring board game publishers. I’m not great at selfies and algorithmically tailored content, but I am good at learning and at explaining complicated topics. And complicated very much describes the landscape I’m uncovering as I’m just getting into board game publishing, late again — 10 years after Jamey Stegmaier literally wrote the book on it (A Crowdfunder’s Strategy Guide).
I’ll be posting articles that answer some of your biggest questions, and iterating on them as I learn more. And speaking of iterating, I’ll also be sharing my two-week Agile sprint reviews so you can get a behind the scenes look at the daily tasks that are needed to publish a game.
So with that, thanks for joining me on this journey, and lets see where it goes!

Ryan, I’m grateful for these resources and I want to thank you for the advice you gave me about a month back on Reddit. You really turned me in the right direction as far as information resources and what I actually wanted to achieve. These blog posts are great, and although I’m at least a solid year behind you in my own card game development process, I still have so much more to learn. I genuinely look forward to seeing your first game and wish it success so you can keep the dream going!
