Join Me On My Journey to Become a Board Game Publisher

Hi! And welcome to my blog. Yup it’s 2025, and I’m writing a blog. Feels like I’m really at the cutting edge of internet communication.

Me discovering blogging (2025, colorized)

I’ve never been great at social media. Not in the way that you have to be to appear interesting, gain a following, and win the hearts and minds of the internet. So rather than flounder around on sites I’m too old for (I was born in 1992, and so that’s actually only half a joke. Which, ouch…), I decided maybe I could actually provide something useful in the form of a blog and my learnings that it contains. I’m not great at selfies and fresh content, but I am good at learning and at explaining complicated topics. And complicated very much describes the landscape I’m uncovering as I’m just getting into board game publishing, late again — 10 years after Jamey Stegmaier literally wrote the book on it (A Crowdfunder’s Strategy Guide).

I’m definitely not blazing any trails and providing brand new content in the way Jamie did with his excellent book. No, in 2025 you can find an abundance of information out there on the Do’s and Don’t of publishing. So much in fact that when I started on this journey I was quickly overwhelmed, and still am. My goal with this blog is to leave virtual breadcrumbs, marking my progress so I can look back on how far I’ve come — and maybe help others navigate through the noise along the way. I’ll be writing about both publishing and game design, tagging posts accordingly so readers can easily find what interests them most.

With each blog post I’ll start off with some nuggies of wisdom that I’ve learned and that feature in the blog, as well as discussion questions to help spur your thoughts and maybe start some interesting conversations. Feel free to leave feedback on the content, things you want me to go into, things you think I got wrong, etc. The goal is to make this useful for people and not to just be muttering into the void, so feedback is always encourage.

So with that, thanks for joining me on this journey, and lets see where it goes!

Ryan
